Common Open Impellers and Applications
An open impeller is a hollow impeller structure whose blades are usually arranged in an arc shape.
The advantages of open impellers are that they are lightweight, have a simple manufacturing process, have a large flow rate, and have good fluid permeability. However, due to its simple structure, the force state of the blades is unstable, which is prone to vibration and noise, and the fluid cannot be too viscous, which can easily cause blockage.
Open impellers are suitable for various types of centrifugal, self-priming, agitators, etc. They are widely used in chemical, smelting, power generation, beverage, papermaking, and other industries.
Open impellers are generally divided into two types – magnetic propulsion impellers and pneumatic propulsion impellers.
Open impeller is a common fluid machinery, widely used in water pumps, centrifuges, fans, gas compressors, and other fields. The basic definition of an open impeller is an impeller with blades open relative to the axis. The following introduces two forms of open impellers.
- Magnetic propulsion impeller
Magnetic propulsion impellers are usually composed of magnetic levitation motors, control systems, sensors, and bearings.
It is working principle is the magnetic field generated by electromagnetic induction causes the rotor to generate buoyancy in the axial direction to achieve axial positioning, at the same time, it also transmits power through the magnetic field to drive the rotor to rotate.
Magnetic propulsion impellers have the advantages of low vibration, low noise, energy saving, and environmental protection, and are suitable for high-speed centrifuges, water pumps, compressors, and other fields.
- Pneumatic propulsion impeller
The pneumatic propulsion impeller is mainly composed of a rotor and a propulsion gas.
The gas is accelerated after being cut by the rotor blades, generating a reaction force to drive the rotor to rotate.
The pneumatic propulsion impeller has the advantages of simple structure, easy maintenance, and reliable operation. It is suitable for fans, turbines, and other fields.
Common Semi-opened Impeller and Applications
As the name implies, the semi-open impeller has blades fixed to the impeller on only one side, and the other side is open for easy maintenance. Compared with the open impeller, the semi-open impeller has fewer blades and larger blades, so it is not easy to generate noise and vibration.
Semi-open impellers are suitable for centrifugal compressors, mixed flow compressors, centrifugal fans, turbochargers, etc. They are widely used in ships, air conditioners, smelting, energy, automobiles, and other fields.
Semi-open impeller generally has two structures
- The front semi-open type consists of a rear cover plate and blades. The impeller efficiency of this structure is low. To improve the efficiency, a sealing ring with adjustable clearance is required.
- The rear semi-open type consists of a front cover and blades. Since the same sealing ring as the closed impeller can be used, the efficiency is the same as the closed impeller. In addition to conveying liquid, the blades also have a sealing function (back blades or auxiliary impellers).
Semi-open impellers are suitable for conveying liquids containing suspended solids, fibers, etc. Semi-open impellers are easier to manufacture, have lower costs, and are highly adaptable. They are increasingly used in centrifugal pumps for oil refining and chemical industries and are used to convey clean water, and liquids that are similar to clean water.
Common Closed Impeller and Applications
The closed impeller is a closed impeller structure, usually composed of two panels and several blades. Since the blades do not detach from the impeller, the fluid has good permeability and does not cause leakage and noise. However, it is manufacturing process is more complicated and is an improved version of the open impeller.
Closed impellers are suitable for automobile engines, hydraulic pumps, centrifugal compressors, etc. They are widely used in automobiles, smelting, aviation, machinery, and other fields.
Parts classification of closed impelle
The closed impeller is a part widely used in mechanical equipment such as pumps and compressors.
According to its structure and purpose, the closed impeller can be divided into the following categories.
- Centrifugal closed impeller
The centrifugal closed impeller is a common closed impeller type used in equipment such as pumps and compressors. It uses the centrifugal principle to generate pressure on the material through the high-speed rotation of the impeller and transport it to the required location.
- Axial flow closed impeller
Axial flow closed impellers are a type commonly found in turbines and water pumps. Unlike centrifugal closed impellers, axial flow closed impellers use the process of axial flow to transfer the pressure and kinetic energy of the fluid.
- Mixed flow closed impeller
A mixed-flow closed impeller is a combination of centrifugal and axial-flow closed impellers. Its structure is similar to that of centrifugal impellers, but the flow direction of the fluid is similar to the axial direction. Mixed-flow closed impellers are widely used in equipment such as ship propellers and turbine generators.
Uses of closed impellers
As an important part of mechanical equipment, closed impeller has a wide range of applications. The following are the main uses of closed impellers.
- Pump
Closed impellers are widely used in equipment such as water pumps, centrifugal pumps, and vacuum pumps to transport, compress, and extract liquids, gases, and other substances. - Compressor
The closed impeller is also one of the main components of the compressor. Its main function is to compress gases and other substances to increase pressure and temperature.
- Turbine
Closed impellers are widely used in turbines, such as steam turbines, water turbines, etc. Turbines use the high-speed rotation of impellers to generate electricity or drive mechanical equipment.
Closed impellers are key parts of mechanical equipment and have a wide range of applications. Different types of closed impellers are mainly used in mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, and turbines, and their main function is to transport, compress, and extract liquids, gases, and other substances.
