Types of Hydraulic Valves

Hydraulic valves have a variety of characteristics similar to other valves. Such as bypass, needle, regulating, relief, ball, butterfly , pilot operated, check valves, steering valves, proportional valves, and directional valves. In general, these hydraulic valves can be described as three main varieties,

Hydraulic Flow Control Valves

Hydraulic flow control valves are used to regulate the flow of fluid through the hydraulic system. These types of valves have a removable ram that changes the watershed to change the flow rate within the valve. For example, this type of hydraulic valve will be used in the control circuits of devices, such as actuators, cylinders, or motors. The speed of these devices is a linear function of the flow rate, that is reducing the flow rate reduces its drive speed and vice versa.

Different types of hydraulic flow control valves are movable flow control valve, pressure compensation flow control valve, fixed flow control valve and throttling flow control valve. The flow control method of these valves is modified according to the mechanical shape of the valve.

Hydraulic Pressure Control Valves

Hydraulic pressure control valves is used to regulate the fluid pressure through the hydraulic device so that the pressure is maintained at the required amount limited by the system operator. Fluid systems are usually produced within a fixed pressure range. These valves play a vital role in preventing pressure buildup that can lead to hydraulic fluid leakage or pipe rupture. They are also installed in certain parts of the hydraulic circuit to obtain the required pressure.

Several pressure control valves are widely used in hydraulic systems, including pressure reducing valves, relief valves, sequence valves, counterbalance valves and unloading valves.

Hydraulic Directional Control Valves

Discrete hydraulic directional control valves are a simple form of binary valves that flow by blocking the fluid. Check valves use ball, plunger, or poppet valve sealing systems if the fluid attempts to flow in reverse.

Hydraulic directional control valves with more complex characteristics may have multiple gates, as their characteristics allow them to switch fluids within different ports, depending on the device they provide for the hydraulic fluid. As such, they are discriminated against by standard numbering systems, which have two values, such as 4/3 or 2/2. The first number indicates the number of valve ports and the second number indicates the number of valve positions that can be achieved by the device.
